Blue Crabs pinch Skeeters in Game 1
The Skeeters needed another "W" in the win column tonight to stay out of the cellar but were not able to get it done. Ryan Ketchner, brand new Skeeters pitcher, got the nod from Gaetti while Deinys Suarez (1-2, 3.80 ERA) went for the Blue Crabs.
The scoring did not get started until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Blue Crabs jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The runs came in on a Mike Daniel triple after a Casey Benjamin double & a walk issued to Matt Padgett.
The Blue Crabs loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 7th inning with a Christian Lopez double, a walk issued to Mike Daniel, and a hit by pitch on Jeremy Owens. Richard Giannotti drove in all 3 runners with a triple to increase the lead to 5-0 in favor of the Blue Crabs.
Matt Hagen was able to get the lone Skeeters' RBI in the 8th inning when he singled in Drew Locke from 3rd base. Even though the Blue Crabs did not need another run, Matt Padgett added 1 more by hitting a 1-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to make the score 1-6...which just happens to be what the final score was.
With this loss, the Skeeters are in a last place tie with the Somerset Patriots at 16-21...5 games behind 1st place Lancaster Barnstormers who do not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Derrick Gordon gets credit for the loss as he pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits.
Hitting Streaks:
Dominic Ramos (5)
Matt Hagen (3)
Bubba Bell (2)
Josh Pressley (2)
Game 2 of the 3-game series is set to start at 6:05pm local time Tuesday evening.
