Skeeters squeak by Blue Crabs...win 5-4

Bobby Livingston (2-2, 5.16 ERA) took to the mound for the Skeeters looking to add another win to his season totals. His opponent was Nick Green (4-1, 3.35 ERA) pitching for the Blue Crabs. The last time the Skeeters faced Green was on May 31st and they put 6 runs on the board off 8 hits in 5 innings and ended up winning the game 10-7. The Skeeters would need to win this game to stay out of a tie for the cellar dweller.

The Skeeters jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when Castro doubled and scored off a Locke single, then Locke scored on a Pressley single after stealing 2nd base.

Bobby Livingston had his pitches working very well and faced the minimum number of batters through 4 innings...12 total batters. He got into trouble in the 5th inning...facing 6 batters, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and an error. The score was 2-1 after 5 innings.

The Skeeters added 2 more runs in the 7th inning when Iggy Suarez doubled and Dominic Ramos hit a home run...his 2nd of the season. Livingston got back into his groove and the Blue Crabs went 3 up & 3 down once again.

In the top of the 8th inning, Drew Locke reached base on an error by the 2nd baseman. It proved costly as he was able to score an insurance run on a Matt Hagen double after Pressley moved him to 2nd base to make the score 5-1.

Will Startup (3-1, 1.50 ERA) came in for Livingston in the 8th inning and allowed 1 hit but kept the the Blue Crabs scoreless. Ofilio "THE HERO" Castro got his 3rd hit of the game with a 1-out single and Drew Locke reached 1st base on a 2-out walk but were stranded on base. Jason "BIG MAN" Botts got his 2nd Golden Sombrero of the season getting his 5th strike out for the game in the 9th inning.

For reasons unknown except by Gaetti, Ryan Houston (1-2, 6.52 ERA) came in for the final 3 outs of the game in hopes of securing the win...and promptly walked the bases loaded on 15 pitches, throwing just 3 strikes. Gary Majewski (2-0, 1.00 ERA & 2 Saves) entered the inning with bases loaded and no outs...a tall order to get out of the inning with a win for the Skeeters. With 1 out, Mike Daniels hit a bases clearing double to make the score 5-4...before the side was retired. Majewski earns his 3rd save of the season for the Skeeters.

The final score was 5-4...SKEETERS WIN!!!

This win gives the Skeeters a 17-21 record, and places them in 3rd in the Freedom Division...5 games behind 1st place Lancaster...and a game out of last place.

Hitting Streaks:
Dominic Ramos (6) hit his 2nd home run as well
Matt Hagen (4)
Josh Pressley (3)
Drew Locke (2)
Octavio Martinez (2)

The rubber game of the series, game 3, is scheduled for 6:05pm local time Wednesday night.
