Game 2...pitcher's duel brings "extra" innings
After the bullpen let one slip away after an hour rain delay, the Skeeters & Barnstormers took the field again in the 2nd game of the scheduled double-header. Matt Wright (2-0, 2.09 ERA) took the bump for the Skeeters while J.D. Durbin (1-3, 5.18 ERA) got the call for the Barnstormers. This is the first time for the Skeeters to face Durbin. Remember that in double-header games, only 7 innings are played instead of the full 9.
The Skeeters once again jumped out to the early lead when, in the 3rd inning, Josh Pressley singled scoring Dominic Ramos & Ryde Rodriguez to make the score 2-0. Wright gave 1 run back in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Emerson Frostad hit a 1-run home run to make the score 2-1...Skeeters' favor.
Fehlandt Lentini hit a lead off triple in the bottom of the 4th inning. He later scored on a Jesus Merchan single to tie the score at 2-2.
The Skeeters went 3 up & 3 down in the 4th, 5th, & 6th innings. Wright had 8 strike outs in the game for a season high...adding to his league leading total now at 47.
Gary Majewski (1-0, 1.13 ERA) came in for the bottom of the 7th inning and got credit for the win by pitching 2 scoreless innings.
The Skeeters won the game in the 8th inning by scoring 2 runs after Jason "BIG MAN" Botts crushed a 2-run home run, his 9th of the season, with 1 out.
The Skeeters now have a 16-20 record, currently 3rd in the Freedom Division thanks to percentage points. The boys will play the first game of a 3-game series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs beginning at 6:05pm local time on Monday.
