Kazmir gets 1st win, Skeeters take series

Looking to win their first series of the second half, the Skeeters sent Scott Kazmir to the mound to face off against Gilbert De La Vara for the Bluefish.
In his 10th start of the season, Kazmir came out and got 2 quick out before giving up a 1-run home run to Prentice Redman before retiring the side. Luckily, the Skeeters came out swinging and put 2 runs on the board giving Kazmir the lead. With Dominic Ramos (single) & Dionys Cesar (single) on base, Bubba Bell singled driving them home for the 2-1 lead after 1 inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Skeeters added 2 more runs. Ofilio Castro singled, and thanks to an error by the center fielder, Manny Mejia (walk) was able to come around and score. Octavio Martinez (single) was able to score from 3rd when Dominic Ramos grounded out to short stop to make it 4-1 good guys.

The Skeeters once more put 2 runs on the board, this time in the bottom of the 8th inning when Manny Mejia & Iggy Suarez hit back-to-back home runs to take the 6-1 lead.

Scott Kazmir pitch 8 masterful innings and after the home run in the 1st inning, only gave up 1 hit to the Bluefish. He allowed just 1 run on 2 hits, walked 1 batter and struck out 3 batters...earning his 1st win of the season! Kazmir also gets my vote for MVP of the game.

Hitting Streaks:
Dionys Cesar (8)
Bubba Bell (5)
Dominic Ramos (4)
Octavio Martinez (3)
Aaron Bates (3)

Home Runs:
Iggy Suarez (6)
Manny Mejia (4)

With the win, the Skeeters stay 6.5 games behind the 1st place Barnstormers as they also won their game.

The boys get a day off on Thursday before hitting the road for a 7-game road trip. They will play 3 games against Long Island starting Friday & 4 games against York after that.
