Skeeters land a win against Bluefish

In this, the first game of a 4-game series, the Skeeters sent Michael Nix to the mound to face off against Jonah Bayliss for the Bluefish. Earlier in the day, the Skeeters and their fans learned that Bubba Bell, Octavio Martinez, Ofilio Castro, & Pedro Liriano would be going to Camden to play in the All-star game next Wednesday, July 11th at 6:05pm local time.

The Skeeters wasted no time in getting on the board and scored 3 runs in the 1st inning. Bubba Bell singled scoring Miguel Negron (single), Ofilio Castro scored on a Steve Moss sacrifice fly to center field, and Bubba Bell scored on a throwing error by the catcher as he was stealing third base...3-0 Skeeters after 1 inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Manny Mejia (walk) scored on a Matt Hagen triple, then Hagen scored on a Dominic Ramos sacrifice fly to center field...5-0 Skeeters after 2 innings.

Michael Nix continued to pitch very well and kept the Bluefish off the board until the top of the 5th inning...when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits, leaving 1 runner on base. The Skeeters went 3 up & 3 down to keep the score 5-2 Skeeters after 5 innings.

Ryan McKeller came in to relieve Nix in the top of the 6th inning and faced 3 batters...setting them down in order. The Skeeters did the same against the new Bluefish pitcher Matt Pike. Still 5-2 after 6 innings.

McKeller gave up 2 runs on 3 hits to the Bluefish in the top of the 7th inning making the score 5-4 Skeeters but Jason Lane was able to single in Dominic Ramos (triple) to bump the lead back to 2 at 6-4 Skeeters after 7 innings.

With Gary Majewski warming up in the bullpen, McKeller came back out for his 3rd inning of pitching and retired the side holding the Bluefish scoreless. The Skeeters were also held scoreless keeping the score 6-4 after 8 innings.

Gary Majewski came in to pitch the 9th inning in an attempt to get his 9th save of the season...and pitched a 3 up & 3 down inning. SKEETERS WIN 6-4!!!
