Majewski blows it in the 9th

The Sugar Land Skeeters sent Jason Lane to the mound to face off against Jason Monti for the Long Island Ducks.
Jason Lane, once again, pitched a masterful game for the Skeeters! He pitched 7 innings, gave up just 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6 Ducks. Since the score was 0-0 when he left the game, he got a no-decision in the game.

Roberto "The Undertaker" Giron came in to pitch the 8th inning. He gave up 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 1 Duck...keeping the Ducks scoreless.

His opponent, Jason Monti, did just as well for 9 innings. He did go a full 9 innings, gave up 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 10 Skeeters. He gave up 1 run in the 9th inning after giving up a 1-out single to Steve Moss. He then stole 2nd base and was able to score on a 2-out throwing error on a ground ball hit by Octavio Martinez to the 2nd baseman. 1-0 Skeeters headed to the bottom of the 9th inning.

Gary Majewski came in to seal the game in the 9th but immediately struggled allowing a lead-off single and walked the next batter...and then gave up a single which tied the game at 1-1...2 runners on, no outs. Shawn Williams grounded out to 2nd base...but it should have been an easy double-play had Hagen not bobbled the ball. James McOwen was intentionally walked to load the bases...in hopes of a double-play ball. Dan Lyons stepped up to the plate and hit a single to score the winning run. Ducks win 2-1.

My MVP of the game is Jason Lane. He pitched 7 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 6 Ducks.

Hitting Streaks:
Josh Pressley (11)
Steve Moss (10)
Bubba Bell (4)
Aaron Bates (3)

This loss gives the Skeeters a 3-4 2nd-half record and puts them now 2 games behind Lancaster for 1st place.

Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 6:05pm local time.
