Pitching duel ends with Skeeters loss

In this, the 3rd game of the 4-game series, the Skeeters desperately needed to get a "W". Michael Nix got the call against Jason Monti...and both put on a show for the LI Ducks.

Nix went 5 innings, allowed just 1 run on 2 hits, walked 5 batters and struck out 3 while Monti went 6 innings, allowed 1 run on 1 hit, walked 2 batters and struck out 4.

The Skeeters' run came in the 5th inning when Steve Moss hit his 2nd home run of the season...tying the score at 1-1.

Pedro Liriano came in to relieve Nix and retired 8 batters in a row, allowing just 1 hit in 2.2 innings. That changed in the bottom of the 8th inning when Liriano gave up a monster HR to Brandon Sing, his 13th of the season...and 3rd in 3 games. The score was 2-1 Ducks after 8 innings.

The Skeeters' hopes rested on Castro, Lane, & Pressley to get runs on the board in the top of the 9th. Castro flew out to right field for the 1st out. Lane struck out, the 3rd time this game, for the 2nd out. Josh Pressley grounded out to the 2nd baseman...Duck win 2-1.

The Skeeters had 5 hitting streaks end tonight...Pressley, Hagen, Lane, Ramos, & Castro.

My MVP of the game is quite easily tonight...Steve Moss. He went 1-1 with a HR...accounting for ALL of the Skeeters' hits & runs. He also had a walk and was hit by a pitch...reaching base in all 3 plate appearances.

Hitting Streaks:
Steve Moss (4)

Home Runs:
Steve Moss (2)

Now down 3-0 in the series, the Skeeters will attempt to win the final game of the series Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm local time.
