Game 2 loss...comeback streak done

After 2 heroic comeback wins in the last 2 games, the Skeeters looked to continue winning and pull to the top of the standings. Heath Phillips got the call for the Skeeters against Rayner Oliveros for the Blue Crabs.

Phillips allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits in the 1st inning and the Skeeters were unable to answer to trail 1-0 after 1 inning. The bats for both teams were quiet until the top of the 4th inning when Phillips faced 7 batters allowing 4 runs on 2 hits in addition to 2 errors in the inning. The Skeeters went 3 up & 3 down for the 2nd consecutive inning...trailing 5-0 after 4 innings.

Pedro Liriano came in for the 5th inning and pitched flawlessly through the 7th...facing 10 batters and recording 9 outs...only allowing a single in the 7th inning with 2 outs. The Skeeters sent 5 batters to the plate in the 7th inning but only had 1 hit, a Jason "BIG MAN" Botts double which resulted in a run...making the score 5-1 after 7 innings.

The newest member of the pitching staff, Kelvin Villa came in for the 8th & 9th inning...facing the minimum batters possible for 2 innings...6. Welcome to the team Kelvin!!! The Skeeters had a chance in the 8th inning with 2 runners on and 1 out but failed to score any runs in the inning. The 9th inning rally caps were on but the boys could not pull it out 3 nights in a row...dropping game 2 of the 4 game series 5-1.

That makes the record 15-16 for the season...1 game out of 1st place behind Lancaster and .5 games out of 2nd behind Somerset. The game between Lancaster & Somerset was postponed due to rain and will be made up at  later date.

Hit Streaks:
Jason "BIG MAN" Botts (10)
Octavio Martinez (4)
Dominic Ramos (4) hit safely in all games as a Skeeter!
Manuel Mejia (4) hit safely in all games as a Skeeter!

Wednesday night's game, game 3 of the series, is scheduled for another 7:05pm start at Constellation Field.
