Game 1 vs. So. Maryland Blue Crabs

On a beautiful Memorial Day afternoon, in front of the 15th consecutive sell-out crowd, the Skeeters took the field in their camouflage uniforms in honor of the past & present troops that defend our great country. Matt Wright (2-0, 1.95 ERA) got the call for the Skeeters while Dan Reichert (2-0, 3.35 ERA) took the bump for the Blue Crabs.

The scoring did not get started until the top of the 4th inning when Wright, went wrong, and gave up a 2-run home run to Richard Mercado, making the score 2-0 Blue Crabs. The Blue Crabs were able to add another run when Casey Benjamin singled, then advanced to 2nd on an attempted pitch-out. Benjamin then scored on a Matt Padgett double, making the score 3-0 Blue Crabs. The Skeeters were able to get 1-run back when Jason "BIG MAN" Botts hit his 2nd double, then scored from 3rd on a Pressley sacrifice fly. The score was 3-1 after 6 innings. After a Brian Barton single and stolen base in the 8th inning, the Blue Crabs added an insurance run when an error by Jason "BIG MAN" Botts allowed Barton to score making the score 4-1.

The Skeeters had just 3 outs left in the 9th inning and looked to get a rally going. Pressley, Mejia, and Ryde Rodriguez all singled to load the bases with no outs. Martinez singled, scoring Pressley and Mejia making the score 4-3...not outs!! Dominic Ramos laid a PERFECT sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to 3rd & 2nd...1 out. Before an intentional walk was issued to Drew Locke, Ryde Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch...game was tied 4-4! With 1 out and a runner on 2nd & 3rd, Player-Coach Vic Gutierrez stepped up to bat. With the count 1 Ball & 2 Strikes, Gutierrez singled scoring Martinez to win the game...5-4 SKEETERS WIN!!

This was the 2nd come-from-behind win in consecutive games to get the record to .500 at 15-15. May 4th is the last time, at 4-4, that the Skeeters have been at .500 for the season.

The Lancaster Barnstormers were able to defeat the Somerset Patriots in 10 innings with a walk-off HR to claim sole possession on 1st place at 16-15. The Skeeters & Somerset Patriots are tied for 2nd place at 15-15...just .5 games out of 1st place.

Hit Streaks:

Jason "BIG MAN" Botts (9)
Vic Gutierrez (3)
Manuel Mejia (3)

Dominic Ramos (3) - has hit safely in all 3 games played as a Skeeter

  1. Question, Ben Harrison wasn't in the lineup tonight right? I was listening but got distracted, and did I hear that he is no longer here???

  2. You are correct sir! He apparently was signed by a team in the Mexican League. I have not been able to find anything on the move but if I do, I will let you know!
