Skeeters grab series lead with 5-2 win
With just 25 games left in the season, and the series tied at 2-2, the Skeeters needed to get a win. Tim Redding got the ball for the Skeeters while Paul Osegura took the mound for the Bluefish.
Bridgeport took the early lead by scoring 1 run in the 3rd inning. In the past 4 games, the team that scored first ultimately won the game so this was not a good thing.
In the 4th inning, the Bluefish added a run to make the score 2-0 bad guys but the Skeeter got 1 run back when Dominic Ramos (single) scored on an error by the pitcher allowing Aaron Bates to reach base...2-1 bad guys.
The Skeeters took the lead away from Bridgeport in the 6th inning when, with 1 out, Dionys Cesar singled, Steve Moss walked, and Aaron Bates singled to load the bases. Bubba Bell then stepped up to the plate and hit a single, scoring Cesar and Moss. Bates then came home on a Matt Hagen double before the side was retired. 4-2 Skeeters after 6 innings.
Tim Redding was done after 6 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3 batters. Dustin "D-Rich" Richardson came in as relief. He would go 1 1/3 innings, walked 1 and struck out 3 batters while holding the Bluefish scoreless.
The Skeeters added an insurance run in the 7th inning when Ofilio Castro (single) scored on a Dionys Cesar single to make it 5-2 good guys.
Gary Majewski came in for the 9th inning to pitch a shutout inning, securing his 21st save of the season and Tim Redding's 2nd win of the season.
Hitting Streaks:
Dionys Cesar (7)
Bubba Bell (4)
Dominic Ramos (3)
Octavio Martinez (2)
Aaron Bates (2)
With the win, the series lead belongs to Sugar Land at 3-2 with 1 game to go. Unfortunately, Lancaster won tonight so the Skeeters did not make up any ground on 1st place but there are now 24 games to go in the season. The final game of the series is scheduled for 7:05pm Wednesday night at Constellation Field.
