"Lane Train" delivers another win
In a series where hits have come fairly easy, but runs are at a premium, the Skeeters sent Jason Lane to the mound to face off against Matt Pike.
Lane and Pike battled each other into the 4th inning before any runs hit the scoreboard. The Skeeters struck first, which in this series results in a win, by putting 3 runs on the board. Ofilio Castro lead off with a walk and with 2 outs, things took off for Sugar Land. While Dionys Cesar was batting, Castro stole 2nd base, then came in to score when Cesar hit a single. Aaron Bates then hit a single to put 2 runners on for Steve Moss. He delivered a 2-run double to give the Skeeters a 3-0 lead,
In the 5th inning, Lane gave up his only run of his outing when Prentice Redman hit a home run to make the score 3-1 Skeeters.
The Skeeters added 2 more runs in the 7th inning when Dominic Ramos tagged Jesse English for a 2-run home run. Octavio Martinez was on base after hitting a double...5-1 Skeeters!
Jason Lane pitched 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3 batters to get his 6th win of the season. Pedro Liriano came in to pitch the final 2 innings and did not allow a base runner.
Hitting Streaks:
Dionys Cesar (6)
Bubba Bell (3)
Dominic Ramos (2)
Steve Moss (2)
Home Runs:
Dominic Ramos (12)
The Skeeters tied the series at 2-2 with the win and they also pulled in front of Somerset in the division by half a game. Lancaster won however so Sugar Land is still 6.5 games out of 1st place. With just 25 games left in the season, the wins need to come more often for the Skeeters and the Barnstormers need to start losing consecutive games. The only chance for the Skeeters to make the playoffs in their inaugural season, they have to win the division in the 2nd half.
Game 5 of this series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:05pm.
