Bridgeport exterminates the Skeeters
There is not much good that happened tonight so this report will be fairly short...after I let you know that the Skeeters lost 16-6! Thank God the first half of the season is finished!!
If you were in attendance, you probably got to see the entire bullpen pitch tonight. The Skeeters used 8 pitchers in the game, with Heath Phillips being the only pitcher to go more than 1 inning. Scott Kazmir, Heath Phillips, Sean Morgan, Derrick Gordon, Kelvin Villa & Roberto Giron combined for 7 innings of batting practice for the Bluefish. In those 7 innings, the Bluefish racked up 16 runs on 17 hits. The only 2 Skeeters pitchers that did not give up runs were Garrett Parcell in the 4th inning & Jusef Frias in the 8th inning...they combined to allow just 1 hit. The Skeeters pitching staff allowed 7 singles, 4 doubles, 1 triple, & 4 home runs to the Bluefish tonight.
Dominic Ramos scored for the Skeeters in the 1st inning when Jason Lane hit a sac fly to right field. In the 6th inning, Jason Lane hit a 2-run home run with Ofilio Castro on base. Iggy Suarez drove in Manny Mejia with a double, then scored on an Ofilio Castro double in the 7th inning. The Skeeters final run was scored in the 8th inning when Steve Moss scored on a Manny Mejia single.
My MVP of the game goes to Jason Lane. He went 2-3 with a single, a home run, and 3 RBIs.
Hitting Streaks:
Dominic Ramos (6)
Matt Hagen (5)
Josh Pressley (4)
Steve Moss (3)
Jason Lane (2)
Iggy Suarez (2)
Manny Mejia (2)
Home Runs:
Jason Lane (5)
The first half of the season comes to an end with a dismal 29-41 record...16 games behind the best record in the league of 45-25 for the Lancaster Barnstormers. That record also gives the Skeeters the worst record in the league behind the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 30-40. There is no where to go but up for the Skeeters in the second half of the season.
