Doubleheader = Double disaster for Skeeters

Riding a 4-game win streak, the Skeeters took the field in game 1 of a doubleheader with Ryan Ketchner (0-2, 13.50 ERA) pitching against Corey Thurman (5-1, 4.24 ERA).

The top of the 1st inning gave the fans something not seen very often, the winning pitcher from the night before batting in the DH spot. Jason Lane came to the plate with Negron (singled, stolen base) on 2nd base and doubled him in to give the Skeeters a 1-0 lead.

Ketchner did nothing to bring his ERA down at all as he only went 1.2 innings, gave up 9 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out only 1 batter...increasing his awesome ERA to 20.00. The score was 9-1 Revs after 2 innings.

Sean Morgan (0-0, 4.43 ERA) came in to relieve Ketchner and struggled just as bad as Ketchner did. Morgan went 3 innings, gave up 7 runs on 7 hits, walked 2 and struck out just 1 batter. Matt Hagen (0-0, 0.00 ERA), normally a 1st baseman, came in during the 5th inning and gave up a 3-run HR to the first batter faced...and finally retired the side but the score was 17-1 after 5 innings.

Jason Lane proved just how valuable he is to the team in the top of the 6th inning when he belted 1-out, 1-run HR to make the score 2-17. Hagen finished the game out going 1.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2 batters.

The misery came to an end with the final score of 17-2...Revs win. This loss to the Revs snaps a 6-game consecutive win streak the Skeeters had over the Revs since losing the opening game of the season.

GAME 2

After a humiliating loss in game 1, Derrick Gordon(1-3, 5.83 ERA) took the mound for the Skeeters to face off against Chris Waters (0-0, 0.00 ERA in 1 game). Fans should have also noticed that the Skeeters changed their uniforms to the Camouflage shirts for this game...hoping to turn things around maybe?

Well...at least it took until the 2nd inning for the Revs to put runs on the board. They scored 2 runs on 3 hits to lead 2-0.

Gordon's struggles worsened in the bottom of the 3rd as he gave up a single, 2 doubles, and a triple...scoring 3 runs before retiring the side...score was 5-0 Revs.

The Revs added 1 run on 3 hits in the bottom of the 5th inning to increase the lead 6-0.

The Skeeters' batters could not get anything going in game 2, only getting 6 hits...spread among 4 batters.

For the 3rd time this season, and the first time by the Revs, the Skeeters were shutout...losing 6-0 in 7 innings.

With the 2 losses today, the Skeeters now have a 22-30 record, 8 games under .500, putting them 9.5 games behind 1st place Lancaster and 3.5 games behind 3rd place Somerset. With just 18 games left in the first half of the regular season, it does not look good for the Skeeters to get an automatic playoff spot.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 5:30pm local time.
