Bluefish derail the "Lane-train"

10 games remain in the season and the Skeeters trail 1st place Lancaster by 7 games so to say we need to "win 'em all" is a huge understatement. Never-the-less, Sugar Land had a very good chance of winning this game with Jason Lane on the mound.
With 1 out in the 1st inning, Ofilio Castro & Dionys Cesar both singled. Now with 2 outs, Josh Pressley singled to score Castro to take the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Ofilio Castro singled, Steve Moss walked & Josh Pressley singled to load the bases with 1 out. Aaron Bates then singled to score Castro before the side was retired...2-0 Skeeters.

The Bluefish got 1 run back on a lead off home run by Prentice Redman to make the score 2-1 Skeeters after 4 innings.

The Skeeters made it a 2 run lead in the 5th inning after Bubba Bell singled bringing in Aaron Bates (double). The Bluefish took the lead in the bottom of the inning, and never looked back. With the bases loaded, Prentice Redman again tagged Lanes offering hitting a grand slam to give the Bluefish the 5-3 lead.

Jason Lane came back out for the 6t inning and gave up another 2 runs on 4 hits to make the score 7-3 after 6 innings.

In the 8th inning, Bubba Bell hit a lead off double to get things going for Sugar Land. With 1 out, Octavio Martinez singled, scoring Bell from 2nd. The mini-rally continued when Dominic Ramos doubled, giving the Skeeters runners on 2nd & 3rd. Ofilio Castro then grounded out to 1st base but it was enough for Martinez to score from 3rd. Dionys Cesar then walked to continue the chances for Sugar Land but Steve Moss struck out to end the inning...7-5 Bluefish.

Dustin Richardson & Sean Morgan combined to pitch 2 shutout innings for the Skeeters for the 7th & 8th.

With the loss, and a Lancaster loss, the Skeeters stay 7 games out of 1st place. York won their game and are now just 2 games out of 1st place...5 games in front of Sugar Land though. The chances of Sugar Land making the playoffs by winning the 2nd half division title look slim. All 3 of the teams have 9 games left in the season. That means Lancaster would have to go 1-8, York would have to go 3-6, & Sugar Land would have to go 9-0 over that stretch for the Skeeters to make the playoffs.

Sugar Land will play a doubleheader on Saturday with two 7-inning games. The first game is scheduled for a 12:05pm local time start with game 2 scheduled for 30 minutes after game 1 ends.
