Skeeters squeeze out a win

Looking to even the series at 3 games apiece, Sean Morgan got his first start of the season. His opponent was Dan Reichert for the Blue Crabs.
Morgan gave up a 1-out triple to Mike Daniel, who then scored on a Brian Barton single to make the score 1-0 after the top of the 1st inning.

The Skeeters took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Bubba Bell hit a 1-out double and scored on a Josh Pressley single. Ofilio Castro (walk) scored on an Aaron Bates single making the score 2-1 before the side was retired.

Controversy entered the game in the top of the 4th inning when the Blue Crabs' lead-off batter, Sergio Pedroza, hit a fly ball to center field. To the umpire, it appeared that the ball Bubba Bell chased down bounced off his glove, and then the wall, and called it a no catch. In the mean time, Pedroza made his way to 3rd base. The way all of the fans saw it, and the entire Skeeters' coaching staff, was that Bubba Bell made an amazing running slide into the CF wall and although the ball did bounce, he gained control before it touched the wall. After about a 5 minute discussion between Gaetti and the umpires, the call was reversed for the first out of the inning. That prompted the Blue Crabs to debate with the umpires for about 10 minutes. The ultimate outcome of the later was that left fielder, Brian Barton, was ejected from the game after he exited the dugout and got in the face of the 3rd base umpire. Once the game got back under way, the next 2 batters went down making it a 3 up & 3 down inning. Iggy Suarez hit a 1-out single and advanced to 3rd base on a 2-out Bubba Bell single. The third single of the inning, hit by Ofilio Castro, scored Iggy making the score 3-1 Skeeters.

Just 3 hits, 2 by the Skeeters & 1 by the Blue Crabs, were literally scattered over the next 4.5 innings. The winning pitcher was Ryan McKeller and Gary Majewski got his 11th save of the season.

My MVP of the game goes to Josh Pressley. He went 2-3 with 2 singles, a walk, and an RBI. He also extended his consecutive game hit streak to 10 games...just 3 shy of the team long 13 games set by Jason Botts.

Hitting Streaks:
Josh Pressley (10)
Steve Moss (9)
Bubba Bell (3)
Ofilio Castro (2)
Aaron Bates (2)

With the win, the Skeeters are now in 2nd place for the division at 3-3. They are 1.5 games behind Lancaster and 1 game ahead of Somerset

The Skeeters now hit the road for a 6-day road trip...but will play 7 games. They will play a double header with the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday, July 24th.

The first series against the Long Island Ducks will begin Friday at 6:05pm local time.
