2012 ALPB All-Star Game

With this being the first year of the Sugar Land Skeeters existence, they were well represented at the All-Star game held in Camden, NJ. Bubba Bell, Ofilio Castro, Octavio Martinez & Pedro Liriano were voted into the game by the fans and Ofilio Castro got the start at 1st base while Octavio Martinez got the start behind the plate. Pedro Liriano came in to pitch the 6th inning and Bubba Bell came in to bat in the 7th inning and played left field for the 7th & 8th innings.

This All-Star game is the 15th for the Atlantic League but just the 5th between the Freedom Division & Liberty Division which were formed in 2008. The new All-Star series is tied at 2-2 so this, in a sense, is the rubber match of the series between the 2 divisions.

Sugar Land Skeeters stats:

Ofilio Castro: 1st inning - Fly out to right field
Ofilio Castro: 4th inning - Strike out
Ofilio Castro: 6th inning - Double
Ofilio Castro: 8th inning - Ground out to 3rd base
Ofilio Castro: 9th inning - 4-3 double play...Bubba Bell scored (no RBI)

Ofilio Castro: 1-5, Double

Octavio Martinez: 3rd inning - Ground out to 3rd base
Octavio Martinez: 4th inning - Single & RBI

Octavio Martinez: 1-2, Single & 1 RBI

Bubba Bell: 7th inning - Strike out
Bubba Bell: 9th inning - Bases loaded single...2 RBIs

Bubba Bell: 1-2, Single & 2 RBIs

Pedro Liriano: 6th inning - 4 batters faced, 1 single, 0 walks, 0 strike outs, 0 runs
Pedro Liriano: 6th inning - 16 pitches thrown (9 strikes & 7 balls)
Pedro Liriano: 6th inning - Batter interference by Christian Lopez (So. MD) for 3rd out

My MVP of the game just happens to go to Sugar Land Skeeter Bubba Bell. He went 1-2 in the game with 2 RBIs which were the eventual winning RBIs for the Freedom Division.

The "official" MVP of the game was awarded to Fehlandt Lentini who reached base safely 3 times in 4 at bats. He went 2-3 with a single, 1 run scored and 1 walk.

With the 9-5 win, the Freedom Division now lead the series 3-2 since 2008...and have won the last 2 All-Star games played.  All teams get back to action this Friday...starting the race for the 2nd half play-off spots.

The Freedom Division used 14 position players & 7 pitchers (8 strike outs/0 walks) while the Liberty Division used 15 position players & 8 pitchers (9 strike outs/4 walks).
