Game 3 vs. Bridgeport Bluefish

The Skeeters looked to rebound from last nights performance to take 2 out of 3 games at Harbor Yard. Heath Phillips took the mound for Sugar Land and Paul Osegura took the mound for Bridgeport.
The Skeeters were only able to collect a single from Suarez in the 1st inning but the Bluefish fared better as they were able to produce a run by sending 7 batters to the plate getting 2 singles, 2 walks and a hit by pitch. The Skeeters got the run back plus 1 to take the lead 2-1 with a 1 out, 2 run home run from Harrison after Castro reached on a walk. Phillips held check and even though he gave up 2 hits, held the Bluefish scoreless. The 3rd inning is when everything came together for the Skeeters as the sent 8 batters to the plate scoring 5 runs of of 5 hits...all with 2 outs! The highlight of the inning was when Ben Harrison hit his second home run of the game, this time driving in 3 runs, giving himself 5 RBI on the day. After walking the lead off batter, Phillips struck out the next batter then walked the next 2 to load the bases. Phillips was able to retire the side by striking out the final 2 batters in the inning, holding the Bluefish scoreless. Again with 2 outs in the inning, the Skeeters put something together with a Van Ostrand single and a Jason "BIG MAN" Botts double, scoring Van Ostrand from 1st base...making the score 8-1. The Bluefish were able to get 2 runs back however with the help of an error and 2 hits in the inning...score was 8-3. The 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th innings flew by only seeing 2 base runners combined as a result of a single and a walk. The score was 8-3 heading into the 9th inning. The Bluefish brought in Kyle Zaleski to pitch and he gave up a walk to Suarez and Single to Van Ostrand. Jason "BIG MAN" Botts stepped up to the plate and struck out for the 2nd out. That was the 11th strike out for a Skeeters' batter thin game...the second most in a single game this season. Castro grounded out to the 1st baseman to retire the side. Michael Nix came out to close the game and faced the top of the order. He retired the side 3 up & 3 down the end the game...final score was 8-3!

With this win, the Skeeters now have a 9-14 record, 4 games behind Lancaster for the division lead. This was the first road series win for the Skeeters this season, and the first series win since the opening weekend against the York Revolution. They look to continue their winning ways when they travel to York, PA for a 3-game series before heading home.

The first game of the York series is scheduled to start at 5:30pm local time on Monday.
