Bates saves Skeeters from no-hitter
With just 6 games left in the inaugural season, the Skeeters looked to end the season strong versus the first team they ever played, the York Revolution. Kelvin Villa got the nod for Sugar Land and hoped to continue his dominating pitching from his last start when he recorded a team-high 11 strike outs. His mound opponent was Chris Waters for York.
Villa could not duplicate his last performance and only went 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits while walking 1 & striking out 5 batters to record his 8th loss of the season. Garrett Parcell came in and pitched 3 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits while walking 2 & striking out 2 batters. Sean Morgan pitched the last 2 innings, giving up 1 hit, walked 1 batter while holding the Revolution scoreless for a final score of 6-0...Revolution win game 1.
The Skeeters came within 1 hit of been no-hit for the first time of the season when Aaron Bates smacked a double in the 5th inning.
Game 2 of the 6-game series is scheduled for 7:05pm Wednesday evening at Constellation Field.
The race for the 2nd half division title is now just between Lancaster & York. The Revolution trails the Barnstormers by 1.5 games. If the Skeeters can hold it together, they will finish in 3rd place for the 2nd half in the division ahead of the Somerset Patriots.
