Bluefish swim away with 4-3 win
After a 4-4 road trip, Sugar Land looked to right the ship by coming home to face the Bridgeport Bluefish for a 6-game series. Scott Kazmir, pitcher for the Skeeters, hoped to get his first win of the season facing off against Gilbert De La Vara for the Bluefish.
The Skeeters quickly fell behind when, with 2-outs and 1 on, Kazmir served up a home run to Willis Otanez to put the Bluefish ahead 2-0 in the 1st inning.
In the 2nd inning, Kazmir once again was tagged with a home run, this time a 1-run shot by Luis Rodriguez to give the Bluefish the 3-0 lead.
The Bluefish once again scored a run in the 3rd inning, though not by home run, to take the 4-0 lead after 3 innings.
Kazmir would finally settle down in the 4th inning allowing just 1 hit. In the 5th & 6th innings, he would retire the side 3 up & 3 down. Kazmir went 6 innings, gave up 4 runs on 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2.
Pedro Liriano & Will Startup combined to pitch the final 3 innings, going 3 up & 3 down in all 3 innings.
All the excitement for the Skeeters happened in the 8th inning when Amadeo Zazueta (fielder's choice) & Ofilio Castro (single) came in to score on a 2-out home run blasted by Dominic Ramos. That made the score 4-3 which was also the final score.
Hitting Streaks:
