Turn-about is Fair-play
After a dominating 9-inning, 3 hit shutout by Jason Lane, the mound belonged to former major league All-Star Scott Kazmir. He would face-off against Nick Green for the Blue Crabs. Hopefully things would fair batter for Kazmir in his 2nd start.
Kazmir's 2nd outing for the Skeeters was just as rough as his 1st outing. Although he pitched into the 2nd inning this time, he failed to get an out before being pulled in the 2nd inning. He officially went 1.0 innings, gave up 6 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 2 strike outs. The Blue Crabs led 6-0 after the 2nd inning. Pedro Liriano pitched 3 scoreless innings only allowing 1 base-runner due to a walk. Sean Morgan pitched the 5th inning and gave up a lead-off home run to make it 7-0 Blue Crabs. Garrett Parcell came in and pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and recording 1 strike out. Kelvin Villa pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 hit, a walk and recorded 1 strike out. Jusef Frias came in to pitch the 9th inning and retired the side 3 up & 3 down.
The Skeeters' batters must have been using the souvenir bats from the "Buzzz Stop" store for the first 7 innings because they were only able to muster 3 hits. They jumped that total to 5 hits after 8 innings when Ryde Rodriguez and Amadeo Zazueta got back-to-back singles. Bubba Bell got the only RBI of the game for the Skeeters when he hit a sac fly to center field scoring Ryde Rodriguez...7-1 Blue Crabs after 8 innings. Although Josh Pressley added another hit to the board making it 6 hits for the game...it did not add anything to the score. The Blue Crabs win game 3 of the series 7-1.
I am hard-pressed to hand out an MVP honor but feel that Bubba Bell should get a shout out...at the least...since he did get credit for the only RBI of the game. That gives him 24 for the season.
Hitting Streaks:
Josh Pressley (7)
Steve Moss (6)
Ofilio Castro (4)
Although the Skeeters lost the game, they remain tied for 2nd place with the Somerset Patriots...but are now 2 games out of 1st place.
Game 4 of the series is scheduled for 7:05pm local time Monday night.
