Skeeters pull it out in 9th
Headed into the final game of the series, the Skeeters had the chance to pull within a 1/2 game of Lancaster, as they lost earlier in the day. Jason Lane took the mound for the Skeeters and faced off against Roy Merritt for the Patriots.
It took until the 4th inning for a hit to be produced and the Skeeters got 2 in the inning...Aaron Bates and Josh Pressley both singled but the Skeeters were held scoreless.
The Skeeters were finally able to put a run on the board in the 5th inning when Matt Hagen (single) scored on an Ofilio Castro ground out to 1st base with the bases loaded to take the 1-0 lead. Jason Lane gave up his first hit of the game with a single in the same inning but held the Patriots scoreless.
With 2 hits producing 2 runs in the 6th inning, the Skeeters took the 3-0 lead. Steve Moss (walk) scored when Matt Hagen doubled to left field. Matt Hagen then scored on an Iggy Suarez single.
Jason Lane pitched into the 8th inning when things started to unravel for him. HE gave up 2 doubles and a run to make the score 3-1 before being replaced by Gary Majewski. Majewski took the mound with a runner on 2nd base with 1 out. After getting the 2nd out of the inning, he hit the batter with a pitch and walked a batter to load the bases. Jake Fox then singled, driving in 2 runs to tie the game at 3-3 before Majewski retired the side.
The Skeeters took the lead back after Bubba Bell scored on an Aaron Bates single...4-3 Skeeters. Majewski came back out in the 9th inning and allowed 1 hit but kept the Patriots from scoring to earn the win!
My MVP of the game goes to Bubba Bell & Aaron Bates for the 2 hits that produced the winning run in the top of the 9th inning.
With the win, and the earlier Barnstormer loss, the Skeeters are just a 1/2 a game out of 1st place.
Hitting Streaks:
Matt Hagen (4)
Ofilio Castro (2)
The Skeeters are now headed home to play an 8-game home-stand...4 against the Camden Riversharks & 4 against the Somerset Patriots. The first game of the Camden series starts Thursday night at 7:05pm local time.
