Skeeters hook the Riversharks for win

The Skeeters, looking to turn things around, sent Michael Nix (1-5, 9.00 ERA) to the mound against Camden's Mike McGuire (2-4, 4.56 ERA).

Just like last night's game, the Skeeters jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Ofilio Castro and Manny Mejia scored in the inning. And just like last night's game, the Skeeters' pitching staff gave the lead away allowing 3 runs on 2 hits...same song, second verse.

The Riversharks added another run to extend the lead to 2-4 after the 2nd inning and it stayed that way until the top of the 5th inning when the Skeeters were able to tie the game at 4-4 with Bubba Bell and Ofilio Castro scoring the runs.

The top of the 6th inning saw the Skeeters take the lead by scoring 2 more runs when Ryde Rodriguez and Ofilio Castro crossed home plate...this was Ofilio's 3rd run scored of the game.

Gary Majewski came in to close the game out in the 9th inning and allowed a lead off double to Drew Macias, who eventually scored to pull the Riversharks to within 1 run of the Skeeters. That was as close as the Riversharks could get as Majewski got his 6th save of the season. The final score was 6-5...SKEETERS WIN!!!

The Skeeters pitching staff combined for 8 strike outs in the win. The newest pitcher, Dustin Richardson, got his first win of the season with 2.2 innings pitched, allowing 1 hit and recording 4 strike outs.

The newest Skeeter, Miguel Negron, literally straight off the plane this afternoon, went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 RBIs...welcome to the team!!

Hitting Streaks:
Octavio Martinez (6)
Dominic Ramos (5)
Ofilio Castro (4)
Bubba Bell (3)
Manny Mejia (2)

The win inches the record to 19-28...3-7 over the last 10 games. The Barnstormers lost tonight making the Skeeters 9.5 games out of 1st place, and with the Somerset Patriots losing as well, 2.5 games out of 3rd place.

The 3rd game of the series is scheduled for 4:35pm Saturday afternoon.
