Skeeters held scoreless...first time ever

For the first time in franchise history, the Skeeters were held scoreless in a game as they fall 0-5 to the 1st place Lancaster Barnstormers.

Pedro Liriano was credited with the loss as he went 4 innings, giving up 7 hits, 5 runs...3 of which were earned. He walked 2 batters and struck out 2 as well. The Sugar Land batters were NO help as they were only able to tally 6 hits in the game...with just 5 players getting hits for the team.

The scoring for the Barnstormers got started in the 2nd inning when Brad Boyer scored from 1st base on a Jaime Pedroza double. Fehlandt Lentini scored the second run in the 3rd inning when, after stealing 2nd base, he was driven in on a Tommy Everidge single to make the score 0-2. The 4th inning was when things fell apart for the Skeeters. They allowed 1 earned run when Blake Gailen scored on a Jaime Pedroza single. 2 more runs scored in the inning due to errors...one by Jason Botts in RF and the other by Octavio Martinez behind the plate. That made the score 0-5...which is where it stayed for the rest of the game.

The few highlights of the game were by hitters that extended their consecutive games hit streaks...listed below.

Hitting Streaks:
Jason "BIG MAN" Botts (13) - franchise record
Manuel Mejia (6) - hit safely in all games played as a Skeeter
Drew Locke (4)
Bubba Bell (3)
Dominic Ramos (2)

With this loss, the Skeeters fall to 15-19 with a 4-game losing streak. The team is tied for last place, once again, this time with the struggling Somerset Patriots (16-20) and are 4.5 games out of 1st place.

The Skeeters will play a double-header on Sunday...which means 2 7-innings games. The first game is scheduled for 4:00pm local time with the second game scheduled for 6:00pm local time.
