Game 1 vs. York Revolution
In the first rematch of the season, the Skeeters looked to take the first game of the series. Before the game started, current Skeeters Octavio Martinez & Michael Nix received their ALPB Championship rings they won as members of the Revolution last year. Derrick Gordon (0-1, 6.00 ERA) got the call for the Skeeters and Jesus Sanchez (1-2, 7.15 ERA) took the mound for the Revolution.
Things did not start well for the Skeeters as they went 3 up & 3 down in the first inning and fell behind the Revs 0-1 on 2 singles and a wild pitch. Nothing happened for either team until the top of the 3rd when the Skeeters drew even at 1-1 when Locke walked and was driven in on Bell's double to LF. The Skeeters were able to put a string of 4 singles together (Harrison, Martinez, Locke & Bell) to score 2 runs, taking the lead 3-1. The 5th, 6th, & 7th innings saw the 2 teams combine for 1 hit...total. The 8th inning saw a couple of fireworks...the Skeeters were able to send 6 batters to the plate, getting 2 hits and scoring another run to stretch the lead to 4-1. The fans were treated to an ejection when their manager, Andy "Etch" Etchebarren, got tossed for arguing balls & strikes with the home plate umpire, Chase Edmondson...a BIG no-no at any level in baseball! Ryan Houston (0-1, 6.23 ERA) came in for relief in the bottom of the 8th for the Skeeters and retired the inning, 3 up & 3 down. The top of the 9th inning had Suarez, Locke, and Bell due up. Suarez grounded out to the 3rd baseman for the first out. Locke drove the ball deep to CF and was able to reach 3rd base when the ball got away from the CF player. Locke scored, making it 5-1, on a sac fly by Bell and Van Ostrand reached base on a 2-out single up the middle. Botts ended the inning on a strike out...looking. Gary Majewski (1-0, 0.82 ERA) came in to close the game out in the bottom of the 9th and ended the game 3 up & 3 down to secure the win, 5-1.
Consecutive games hit streaks:
Jimmy Van Ostrand (5)
Ofilio "THE HERO" Castro (5)
Octavio Martinez (4)
Jason "BIG MAN" Botts (3)
Ben Harrison (2).
This was 2 wins in a row and improves the Skeeters' record to 10-14, still 4 games behind Lancaster as they were able to beat Long Island 8-1. This also puts the Skeeters 1.5 games ahead of the Revolution in the Freedom Division. The Skeeters will take the field for game 2 in the 3 game series Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30pm local time.
That ejection was crazy. The manager was just trying to buy some time for his pen to get warmed up. I'm guessing he was asking the ump what he ordered for lunch today...
ReplyDeleteThere were several bad calls and i think he had enough!
